Equifax Announces Data Breach

Equifax, one of the three major credit reporting bureaus in the United States, recently announced a cybersecurity incident that potentially impacts over 143 million people. Consumer data that includes names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some instances, driver’s license numbers, was included in the data accessed.

Like almost all financial institutions, LBS Financial reports loan-related information to all three major credit bureaus, including Equifax. Equifax has released information about the data breach at www.equifaxsecurity2017.com.

I was part of the breach. What can I do to protect myself?

For added security, you can add a code word to your account which is used as an additional verification step when calling the Credit Union for assistance. Additionally, you should review your account history on a regular basis and report any unusual activity promptly to the Credit Union.

All consumers have a right to pull their credit report from each of the 3 credit bureaus annually by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com, or by calling 877.322.8228. We encourage you to pull one credit report at a time and spread them out over the year.
